What the WellPlated Index means — and how to use it

12 May 2026·4 min read

The WellPlated Index is a simple score from 0 to 100 that reflects the overall nutritional balance of a meal.

What goes into the score

The index draws on the nutrition data from a scan — calories, macros, fibre, salt, saturated fat and more. It considers these values in relation to each other, not just in isolation. A meal can be high in calories but still score well if it's rich in protein and fibre.

How to use it

The index is most useful as a guide, not a rule. If a meal scores in the 80s or 90s, it's a strong indicator that it's well balanced. If it scores in the 30s or 40s, it's worth asking whether there's a better alternative.

What it isn't

The WellPlated Index is for general information only. It is not medical advice and should not be used to manage any health condition.
